New Year. New Blog…Hello ellemma!

New Year. New Blog…Hello ellemma!

Sooo…here I am again! Back with a new look, new name, and hopefully a renewed sense of purpose with regards to where this little blog is going. For the ton of readers out there who don’t know me, hello! Welcome to ellemma, and thank you for stopping by to have a browse of my many ramblings. I’m going to use this first post as a ‘getting to know me’ introduction, with a quick-fire round up of who I am, and what ellemma is all about.

My name is Emma, and I like to write…

Quite a lot to be honest with you. In fact, right from my school days I was among the very few strange ones who actually enjoyed writing essays, homework, classwork etc.. I guess that has never left me, as right through uni I was the same. And up until last year I didn’t have a real ‘purpose’ for writing anything. Until of course, I discovered blogging…

Emma Welham from ellemma

I started off as a ‘Mummy Blogger’…

That was a whole year ago today. I had wanted to start an on-line diary about my thoughts and feelings on motherhood for quite a while, and so one night whilst I was half asleep and filled with musings on being a Mum and everything that entails, cheap jerseys I created a little Blogger blog, and wrote my first ever post.

I cringe at it now, and yet it will always be special to me because it essentially gave me the ‘blogging bug’. If you so wish, you can have a read of it here... After a few months, I changed the blog’s name to No Love Like It, and started writing about all manner of baby and toddler topics connected with whatever was going on with my kids at the time. Teething was a particularly hot topic…

But now I like to chat about make up, skin care and lifestyle…

I can’t remember exactly when, but at some point over the last few months I started to become quite cagey about what I was writing with regard to my children, and how I was putting it out there for all to see. I totally get that parenting and family blogs are incredibly important to a lot of people, (not to mention bloody useful for first-time mums desperately searching for advice on-line at some ungodly hour in the morning), and I respect the fact that some of the most successful bloggers out there are the mummy ones, but I decided somewhere along the line that I would change route, and so I took to writing about make up and skin care, along with other lifestyle bits and pieces.

I bit the bullet and went self-hosted….

A couple of weeks ago I decided to take the plunge and go self-hosted. I still feel so nervous as there is a ton of things I am yet to learn, but I’m super excited to have my own little website. The name ellemma came about by accident, as I had wanted something else but it was taken, so this just sort of happened by default. But it’s starting to grow on me, and I think/hope that ellemma has a bit of a ring to it, and will stay with me and the blog for many years to come.

ellemma is a beauty and lifestyle blog….

And that’s what most of my content and posts will be focussed on. I will occasionally dabble in other things such as the odd fashion-related post or something topical which I feel I can talk about connected to blogging, but ellemma is predominately going to be a place where I can write down my thoughts on the big old wonderful world of cosmetics and skin care. I read so many beauty blogs and will often buy a product based on someone’s recommendation, so if my blog does anything then I hope it serves a purpose in that respect, and is useful to someone.

I will aim to post at least twice a week, but hopefully r more once I get into the swing of things. Like I said, I’m still learning so much so please bear with me whilst I find my feet with it all! Check out my Instagram for photos, and in the meantime, if you could go and give me a little follow on Bloglovin or give my Facebook page a like I would be so grateful. Getting support in the early stages of blogging is a lot harder than I first thought. When I started blogging last year I had no idea just how hard it would be, and I came so close to throwing in the towel. But instead I ended up investing in the blog and creating ellemma. Definitely a little case of fight or flight there.

Take care, and I will be back with my first beauty post very soon!

Emma, the new blog looks wonderful. Well done. I understand where you are coming from in regards to feeling cagey about writing about your children, I too am starting to feel that way. Every day I’m not sure whether to continue on with the blog or not. (I also seem to have nothing to write about at present.. ) Your new design looks great and I love the name. I am looking forward to following along. Jack

Thank you Jac! I used to love writing about the kids, it felt like such therapy for me and felt like the only thing I could write about with any sense of authority at the time. But I have just started to get a little more private and now that Olivia is getting that bit older, I don’t know why but I did a complete u-turn on what I was doing with the blog. Hopefully I have finally found my calling now with the make up and skincare!

I have to say Jac that I love reading your blog. It’s one of the very few that I always search for on Google and look forward to any new posts. Your food ones recently have made me salivate with the photos and recipes – everything looks so damn tasty! And I respect your honesty in your posts too – that is something which goes a long way in blogging I think. Don’t give up on it, especially if you are still enjoying it. I think you have a brilliant talent for writing. Are you on Bloglovin by the way? I only ask because I can save your blog in my favourites then.

I used to love writing essay at school! English Lit was my favourite subject and actually looked forward to exams as I could just write and write about the books we read. This is such a lovely read, and I like the name ellemma!!
