Blogging at Christmas…and why I haven’t done it

Happy Christmas guys! I hope you had an amazing day and got everything you wished for. It feels like a while since I last blogged and the whole purpose of this post really is to talk a little about my reasons for not blogging at Christmas.

The holidays go so quick for a start. I’ve been super lucky in that I have this week off work, and while that should or could (depending on which way you look at it), mean that I write lots of content and take photos for posts, all I’ve really wanted to do is spend quality time with my family to be honest. (For those who don’t know, I’m married and have two children, ages three and two. Yes it’s manic and yes there are difficult days, but it’s also amazingly perfect and they’re my whole entire world. Cue end of Soppy Mummy/Wife Talk.)

I’ve been given some lovely pressies which I may do a little post and/or review about in the new year, but I’m not that inclined to do a whole “what I got for Christmas” post…I just don’t really like doing that myself, (although being the nosey sort of person that I am, I LOVE watching and reading what other YouTubers and bloggers were given).

I suppose blogging at Christmas for me personally feels like I’m doing something I sort of shouldn’t be, if that makes any sense?! It’s a time to make the most of being at home, and to enjoy the laid-back festive vibes; also known as the crazy period between Christmas and New Year when you don’t know what day of the week it is anymore, and you’re scoffing Quality Street whilst watching various Pixar films in your pyjamas. Or is that just me?….

Sure I’ve been on Twitter and Instagram every day like I always do; (I don’t think there’s ever a day when I don’t go on either of those anymore), but it’s only been for a quick scroll through recent tweets and posts to satisfy my FOMO, which is getting alarmingly worse the more I get sucked into the blogosphere.

I’ve also really enjoyed watching a few of my favourite YouTubers’ Vlogmas instalments, and I take my hat off to them for being so efficient at filming, editing and uploading videos every day during such a crazily-busy time of year. I don’t know where they find the time to do so much, and I guess that’s partly why I haven’t blogged over the past couple of weeks too. It’s just been so busy with lots of things going on, but I’ve got three review posts scheduled for January as well as a second instalment to my Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar review.

I’m constantly planning new content – it’s just finding the time to write it all that I struggle with. I’ll be back with a new post before the weekend though, which will be a 2016 blog review. I’m really excited to share it with you guys as there’s been quite a lot that’s happened over the past year for Ellemma, and I’m so pleased that I actually stuck with this little blog, as I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought about giving up on it. But I’m really glad I haven’t.

As always, thanks so much for reading! I guess blogging at Christmas for me was always going to be difficult with little ones, but I hope you enjoy the rest of the week whatever you get up to, and I’ll be looking back on the blog in a new post coming soon…

I loved this post, and I completely agree with your reasoning behind not posting or working too much during the festive season, I ended up taking a bit of a break too – and I am so glad I did, as it has definitely helped get my blogging mojo back and kept me inspired for the new year. It’s always nice to have a little break from blogging and spend time with our loved ones, and I think this post captures that really well.

Much Love and Best Wishes for the New Year,

    Frances xx

Hi Frances, thank you sooo much for such a lovely comment! I love writing this sort of more personal post; it makes a change from the reviews and other sponsored posts I occasionally do, and it’s so nice to hear that others enjoy reading them too. I’ve definitely found a blogging break has helped me too. It’s ironic isn’t it?! But sometimes I think break is actually really good for getting creative ideas going again. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and wishing you a very Happy New Year! Xxx

You’re very welcome, Emma! And me too, it’s fun to write something you wouldn’t normally and it really is a joy to read posts such as this, it helps me (and other readers, I’m sure) get to know you a little better. And I agree – a break was exactly what I needed to get me back on track and remind me why it is I love blogging so much. The same for you – wishing you all the best for 2017! Much Love xx
