Somehow it’s been almost a whole month since I went up to London for the Garnier Beauty Blogger shoot. Time has flown! Like I said in my blogger box post (which you can read here to refresh the memory or in case you didn’t catch it the first time around), I’m so gutted that I didn’t take any photos on the day.
It all went by in such a blur, from the train journey up there, to travelling on the overground in the city and my little stroll to Hammersmith where L’Oreal’s headquarters are, the day just went SO fast, and I barely had time to get my phone out to be honest with you. It’s a shame though as I would have loved to have snapped some behind the scenes pics to share with you, and I’m sorry for the lack of images in this post. Guess you gotta use your imagination for this one!
After arriving in plenty of time for my allocated photo slot of 3pm I went upstairs to the hair department which was rather swanky and had their very own Kerastase salon filled with every hair product you could possibly imagine. Whilst I was daydreaming about what it would be like to work at L’Oreal and wondering if free haircuts, highlights and products were included in the staff perks (didn’t get to ask anyone but probably quite likely), I found myself in the studio with a lot of people, and suddenly felt so bloody shy. One of those, “am I really here and is this actually happening” kind of situations.
It very much was, and after saying hello to the team and meeting one of the other bloggers whose shoot was just wrapping up (also called Emma funnily enough: all the best girls are you know?!) I had a chat with the lead person from Garnier who was overseeing the shoot. On a side note by the way, the lovely Emma blogs over at glossy boutique and if you don’t know of her already then you can check out her fab site here.
I was taken to make up first and then hair. I had arrived wearing my usual make up and wasn’t surprised when they said they would be taking it all off. I’d been so excited at getting the full works. Contouring that Kim K would be proud of etc etc! Well here’s where I was surprised, as the make up that was put on me was so minimal, to the point where I kinda felt…made under? But I think it was in keeping with the natural image which Garnier has, and the Ultimate Blends range itself is all about natural ingredients in their products, so that was fair enough. I just felt self conscious wearing less make up to go in-front of the camera than I had when I arrived, but there you go, one of those things!
Hair was lovely to get done, some loose curls were put in with a tong and I was asked to change into a neutral coloured top and then step in front of the camera….Some test shots were done and then the photographer got snapping away!
I have no idea how long my slot lasted, it all went pretty fast like I said before. I was told to stand at a certain angle, hold my head this way while pointing my shoulders another way… It was very technical but at the same time, it was a lot of fun and the entire team were so friendly and helpful with directions. I posed with the products (major cheesy smiles there!) and then the other three blogger girls came back into the studio for some group shots. I will post links to their blogs at the end so you can go and check out their lovely sites.
And after the last few group shots, that was, as they say, a wrap! It was a lot of fun and was great to meet the other four girls who won this competition. I still can’t believe that I made it to the final five. Apparently over three hundred girls entered this competition so I’m absolutely chuffed (and still bewildered) that I got through.
As were leaving we were given gorgeous goody bags filled with some Garnier skincare products, (and more Ultimate Blends of course) to take home with us which was very kind of the company.
I haven’t blogged about the products and don’t think I will in the future to be honest as I don’t want the blog to feel too swamped down with Garnier things, but I’ll pop in a picture here so you can see what was included in the goody bag.
All in all, I was in London for the best past of the day and didn’t get home until well after 9pm. (Thanks to a very random detour back to Waterloo and then having to change trains on the route back – got to love public transport, just filled with surprises!). I was knackered but buzzing when I got home and feel so grateful to have been picked for this opportunity.
I’ve been waiting since then to hear from my contact at Garnier with info about the photos and when they will be in store….and I actually received an email TODAY with the chosen photos!
I’m not going to share my one on here yet, as I haven’t been told if I’m allowed to post it on social media until the photos are ‘official’ and in store. And I don’t want to p**s anyone off. I can reveal though that the pics will be up as POS in Superdrug stores from 6th April to 3rd May! So not too long to wait. There is one individual shot of each of us and I’ve been told that there will also be a handful of group shots getting published on Garnier’s social media calendar, but they are currently still being edited so I haven’t seen them yet.
I feel a bit weird now that I’ve seen the photo to be honest with you as its not what I expected at all. I’m definitely my own worst critic I know that, but I just can’t help feeling I look pretty weird with my smile and I think my choice of top doesn’t look great on camera at all.
But for whatever reason, they went with that photo. So I guess I have to trust their judgement and hope that the other pics look okay too! The other girls looks beautiful and I will share their blogs with you here if you fancy taking a look at what they get up to:
Emma like I already mentioned is over at Glossy-Boutique
Roshni Reviews is at Roshni Mistry
Dani is at Fashion Eye Dani
And Ali is still in the process of setting up her blog!
They write fantastic beauty posts that are well worth checking out, and you’ll start to see their faces in Superdrug along with my crazy-happy smile (you’ll see what I mean when you see the photo), at the start of next month!
So not long to go. Am a mixed bag about how I will feel when I see the photos in store. I honestly don’t know how to react when I go in and see my face there among the shampoos…It’s going to be so strange. If I felt more confident about the photo it probably wouldn’t be a big deal, but the fact that I just don’t like it that much makes me feel even more self-conscious than I would have been anyway.
But I’m going to shut up moaning and say bye for now. I told a little white lie as I did manage to get one pic of the day, the L’Oreal sign outside the building in all its glory…
But I hope you enjoyed this post anyway, and I’ll be back very soon (probably around the end of the week) with a new post about something else quite exciting to chat about! Thanks so much once again to L’Oreal and Superdrug for this opportunity. I had an amazing day and I hope that the photos reflect that when you see them in store.
Speak soon xx
